Automotive Mechanic

  • Always double the man hours required for any job. Nothing feels better than being paid to sit down and relax.
  • Always throw away old parts; the customer doesn't need to see them. If the customer asks, tell them you threw it away.
  • Always provide something free; you can always tack on a bunch of unnecessary products and services once the customer is happy they are getting something for free.
  • Must always use cheap parts and then mark up the prices. This provides the customer with the peace of mind they are buying superior products.
  • Must understand that test drives are for rookies.
  • Must take everything the customer says as an individual problem and charge accordingly.
  • Must never provide detailed explanations of repair phases, details, or express any alternatives to the customer; especially cheaper alternatives.
  • Must know that "certified pre-owned" certificates are essentially free money. It means nothing to you, but the customers eat it up.
  • Must be able to convince customers that all cars need regular transmission flushes. Yes we know that's a lie, but most of your customers won't.
  • Must avoid written estimates; how else are you going to up charge the customer?
  • Must salivate when a car's check engine light is illuminated. Check engine lights provide you free reign to repair anything you want; take advantage.
